Ha! Friday’s Foto Fun picture was pretty funny if I do say so myself. I really looked like some old man didn’t I? Check it out.
OK…so here’s a question. She’s got a cousin who asked Her about Scotties. What kind of dogs are we, do we shed, that kind of thing. So, while She was answering Her cousin’s email, I said, “Hey, why not ask Our Scottie Chronicles friends what they’d say about us Scotties?”
So, here We are. Asking the question: What would you say to someone who asks what Scotties are like? You know, if somebody is thinking about getting a dog experiencing the unbelievable joy of all that is Scottie-li-cious-ness?
Leave Us a comment so my distant-human-cousin can find it and make up her mind. Thanks!
What You Learned Today:
- We’ve got a cousin who’s thinking about sharing her and her husband’s life with a Scottie.
- We’ve told her all about how wonderful
I amScotties are. - And now We’re wondering what YOU’D say about us Scotties.
- Thanks for sharing.

“don’t bug me now, I am taking a nap”..”your going to do WHAT to my toenails?”…” I don’t want to get wet and I don’t need a bath”
and my favorite Scottie reply from Fergie…” food, you got food…I want it, now gimmie’ food..please, I have to have it..food ..food…” ( she ate a whole paper towel yesterday…we are awaiting the results as we speak)…
Mum says I am the greatest car companion, and I am friendly when I first meet people…I get along with other dogs and we are very stubborn and set in our ways, sorta like an old man…and we love, love, love our peeps…

Scotties are, of course, the best dogs ever. Stubborn, loyal, protective, playful, stubborn, loving, intelligent, great and wonderful companions. Did I mention stubborn?
We have found life with our two Scotties to be full of unexpected moments of joy and laughter. We can’t remember what it was like before they became part of our little pack.
Scotties are quite simply “The Dog of dogs”. Loyal, but that loyalty must be earned, not yappy, but with a bark that makes you wonder just what is on the other side of the door… ready to play at the drop of a hat, but also quite happy just to nap, perhaps not the greatest cuddlers in the world, but also not needy. Reserved towards strangers, but not fearful. Tolerant of children that treat them with respect. Things to be remembered, they do have a stubborn streak a mile wide, and do not suffer fools gladly, they need a firm but gentle hand.
Terriers belong with Terrier people. If your prospective Scottie parents are looking for a poodle-get a poodle. Probably the best thing they could do would be to volunteer to foster a Scottie rescue. Westies have a problem because they are so photogenic and downright cute that people get them for the wrong reasons and they wind up not being wanted because they didn’t meet the teacup lapdog standard that was expected of them. If the prospective couple still wants a Scottie after fostering one-sounds good to me. The world needs more Terrier peeps. They both grew up with terriers so my behavior was no surprise. He says that if They started fostering, He’d want to keep all the clients.

We are not Scotties – we’re Airedales but we both belong to the Terrier group and Terriers rule!
Love ya lots

Terriers DO rule! You Aire’s are also great but They decided that you’re hogging the bed more than Scots and Westies.
My Scottie, Button has been such a delight. We like her aloofness, not overly affectionate, and has been raised with lots of small kids as I have day-care here. Moves away when she doesn’t want to be bothered by them. Has a fierce bark but never injured a soul. There are black hairs to contend with. But grooming isn’t that bad, I shampoo, trim and shave her myself. She knows who loves her. Alot of dog in a black fur coat.
What kind of dog is a Scottish Terrier?
Well that’s a hard and yet easy question.
Scotties embody loyalty to the extreme. They’re a big dog in a small body and believe they can do anything. They do require grooming to show off their beautiful regal form. There personality will win over any person -even died in the wool cat lovers.
Once you have a Scottie in your life, you’ll not be able to live with any other dog. Just my opinion – ; )
PS. Remember rescue as a first option to finding your Scottie. Visit Scottish Terriers Of American website for a list of rescue coordinators http://stca.biz/index.php?option=com_gcontact&view=listing&Itemid=168
Ok…well first let me start by saying that we just love your picture!!! So back to the doggie question!!! I’m not a Scottie but I’ll tell you what I think of them…there is no mistaking a Scottie when you see them! There is no dog that looks like them. Terriers in general are amazing and you just can’t go wrong. When they got me, they were told that they had to be consistent with training or I’d get away with well…anything I wanted. I wish that was the one bit of advise that they didn’t listen too…doesn’t make for much fun if you ask me!!
You won’t believe what SHE says. SHE says we are a bit like CATS…if you can believe that. That we are very independent, not good at playing or doing (dumb) tricks. If you want a dog that obeys all the time, scotties aren’t for you. But we are wonderful listeners, guard dogs, humorous and great companions.

I knew all my Scottie Chronicles friends would share the love with my distant peep cousin. Thank you all for letting her know what to expect. I hope she choose to rescue a Scottie! Don’t you?
Y’all are the greatest!
Thanks for writing, RooooOOOOOooooo, Stuart
How’d I miss THIS one? These dog gone hot days are getting to me…whew! Well, if you want to know about Scotties…don’t ask the Mumster, she’ll write a book. SHE really does think we are the greatest….she always says to me “Saxby, its your world, thanks for letting me live in it”…It’s a good thing she knows what she is talking about – eh? I sometimes over hear her (she thinks I am in a dead sleep…shhhh don’t tell her) talk to her friends and new prospective scottie peeps…”Scotties are superior and best you (new peeps) learn that right up front”…yup, me Mumster really knows her stuff.
Now that we got that outta the way…if I must say so myself, Us Scots are incredibly loyal and the best companion ever…on the other hand…I know I got it made with my Mumster…she loves me more than anything!
Let us know if another Scot moves into the family Stuart! You’ll have to teach him/her the ropes!
