Let’s Talk Amongst Ourselves Today

Oh me. The things I talk about with my friend Dixie. And all my other friends for that matter. We share stories and laugh a lot. What do you talk about with your friends? HEY…here’s a thought, let’s all talk together today. Why not?

Here’s a topic…since this comes up a lot here at The Scottie Chronicles… if you have skin allergies or digestive problems, what do you eat? I was so impressed with my blog friends who stepped up to help Georgie B’s housemates the other day. Seems there’s a digestive issue there and many of you have left comments to help solve the problem.Y’all are the best!

Since we Scotties are oh-so-helpful, let’s all put our heads together and share our information, OK?

OK. Here’s my contribution: try this website to learn about dog food.

What You Learned Today:

  • We’re having a confab today.
  • We’re talking amongst ourselves through comments.
  • The first topic is: skin allergies and digestive problems – what do YOU eat to stay healthy?
  • Now. That was easy.
  • Leave a comment and share your information!
  • Thank you, from the bottom of my little frog dog feet, for helping others.

About The Scottie Chronicles

Winston welcomes you to The Scottie Chronicles - a blog that began in 2009 as a voice for Stuart, a more than memorable black, brindle and white Scottish Terrier who captured hearts around the world. Stuart passed suddenly in December 2015 from cardiac hemangiosarcoma, a nasty cancer that took him far too early. If you love Scotties, please follow along. Arroooo!

  1. I don’t have a Scotty, but our Golden Retriever has skin issues, and he does best on EVO food. When he gets too itchy, we also give him benadryl.

  2. Kyla says:

Kenzie (also a Westie) has irritable bowel syndrome. Since he was diagnosed, he’s been fed various vegetarian foods (his favorite is Dick van Patten’s) and I get it also. No problems so far in the seven years we’ve been on this. We also get pumpkin, broccoli, collard greens along with carrots and green beans. No table scraps for Kenzie but I get my double helping. This is making me hungry-let’s chow down.

  3. Lee says:

We have no digestive problems here. I know though, if I get an egg a couple of times a week my coat really shines.
Now itchies, it comes when those darn fleas bite me. But, I take a flea pill ~ but only during the months those darn little bugs are active.

  4. Jazzi says:

I am with Sweet William. NO problems here except if I get some darn staff infection. I take that same pill fur the fleas too. I digest everything I eat ohh too well, BOL

  5. Mr Reilly suffers badly with both skin and food allergies. After many thousands of green paper thingies we eventually found he is allergic to any type of poultry, wheat and rice. Made it really tough finding a food for him. But we did – he is on Taste of the Wild – bison and venison mix and thrives on it. It has only fruits and veg in it – no grains and no other rubbish. His skin is a grass allergy made much worse from moving to a new state. Doggies get use to plants where they grow up – new ones can send them into scratchy frenzies. Reilly has an allergy shot every month and we add probiotics to his food as allergies of the skin can be inside and outside!

  6. Joan says:

Raven use to itch and the vet gave her the same allergy pill that I use (how convenient). It’s very good for the itchies. I don’t have it with me right now to give you the name. I’ll check back and leave the name later.

  7. Hoke says:

I bite my feet when I have had too much wheat…and all those yummy treats have wheat as their first ingredient…so now she gives me natural treats, grain free from trader joes…and I get before Grain food from merrick…oh how she hates when I bite my feet…says that sound is like nails on a chalk board!!!

  8. NoodleDog says:

I have tummy problems & allergies. I get
Dick Van Patton natural Balance sweet potato & venison, and nothing else. Mom says its not worth me being sick to give me anything different. She sprays my feet with DermAllay oatmeal conditioner when I chew them, and it helps a lot. I’m a scottie that was rescued 4 years ago

  9. Daisy says:

When we switched to kibble, Daisy scratched and flapped her ears. then we got a no-grain/salmon type and no problems.

We got a flea today, so we scratched. now we’ve each had a Capstar and will get Comfortis next week.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

  10. Lynda Butler says:

this has be GREAT for my help with Fergie…no wheat or grain has been working very well…taste of the Wild is good for her and I am supplementing that with chicken and veggies…( are caned veggies OK ?) I am going to try the egg a few times a week as well.

We are still doing the Benadryl as needed..no more than a 1/2 teaspoon once or twice a day…( nothing will help her biting her feet when I scratch her ears…BOL.. she just can’t help her self.)
She had her ‘girly’ parts fixed last month so now I am dealing with a weight issue as well.

Thanks be to the Doggie Master above that the other three dogs have no issues. Scarlett the Greyhound can eat anything and be healthy…Captain the Boxer as well…and Georgie is so picky, he takes all day to nibble at his food. now he is eating the same as Fergie and gobbles his food down.

I have had dogs living with me for over 45 years and this is the first allergy issue I have ever had.

Thanks so much for your help…

  11. Sandy Bruning says:

Hey Stuart – I have had allergy problems since birth and after many years of visits to our favorite vet – Dr Lori E – who started me on Venison and sweet potato – no grains – I am really in good shape now – Very little itching (unless there is a stray flea around) and hopefully I will stay this way – Taste of the Wild is what I have graduated to – and my Mom has friends who hunt so I get real venison – cooked in the crock pot – to go with dinner – I share with my Mom, sister and cousin who live here too – so we all are doing well.
Nice to see you are concerned about things that could be dtrimital to us—Tobias, Shadow, Cherry & Lady.
