Why Can’t We All Just Be Friends?

Oh me. I’ve just been thinking about my friend Sweet William the Scot. He’s sort of new to Blogville, but he’s not new to those who’ve been following his comments around the ‘hood. He’s a pretty cool fellow. Had a rough start as a pup. Trouble with his front legs. But somebody posted a nasty comment on his blog about his being different. Wha????

Then, as it turns out, my sheltie friends over at the Cowspot Dog blog, had the same trouble with somebody commenting on their blog about them not being “real” shelties because of all the white furs they have.

And, then, YOU KNOW I started thinking about little ‘ole MOI. And about how my own start in life didn’t go so well either because I’m different, too.  With all of my white furs and bent tail and all.

You know what? I’m soooooOOOOooo glad I’m not the only one who’s different.

Say….you know what? Wait just a minute here…hold the phone.

Maybe it’s not US who’s different????

Could it be….yeah!..that’s it!… it’s EVERYBODY ELSE who’s different??? What’s wrong with being DIFFERENT anyway?

Why can’t we all just get along and be friends? No matter what kind of furs we have? Or if our legs are different? Or if my breeder hated me and yours didn’t hate you? Or if you didn’t have a breeder at all and you just happened to, you know, be born?

It just really doesn’t matter does it?

Think about that for a minute. Be nice. And nice will come back to you. If not, well, I’m just saying….

What You Learned Today:

  • It burns me up when people are mean.
  • Especially to dogs (ok, and cats, too).
  • My peep always tells me that if I don’t have something nice to bark at somebody, then, don’t bark at them at all.
  • So don’t call me a “skunk” and I won’t have to keep my trap shut.
  • Why don’t we all just try to get along??
  • And, for heaven’s sake, if you don’t have something nice to say in a comment on somebody’s blog, then DON’T SAY ANYTHING at all. K?

About The Scottie Chronicles

Winston welcomes you to The Scottie Chronicles - a blog that began in 2009 as a voice for Stuart, a more than memorable black, brindle and white Scottish Terrier who captured hearts around the world. 1. Wonderful post today… Every word of that needed to be said and you said it just right. I’m proud to be your friend.

    pawhugs, Max

  2. katie says:

Boy – so folks are just plain barkin’-nasty! I hope you blocked that person from posting comments … and, by the way, you’re handsome and perfect in my book.

Take care and hugs from your westie friends – Julep and Derby

  3. The Guys, Susie & Sidebite says:

There is no such thing as different, we are all dogs and very UNIQUE, Sidebite says be proud of that bend tail, he has one too and the peeps thinks it make him stand out. My self, i was abused by my breeders, they beat me and didn’t feed me, because I was the runt of the litter. When my peeps found me they went to extreme measures and time to get me, I was 9 months old, weighted about ten pounds with every rib showing and hair that had to be cut off and I was afraid of people. Yea, I am different, I am still afraid of people, except my peeps, who love me and I love them, they are my Mom & Dad an would take any body to hand over any issue with me our Sidebite. This person making these remarks is not a dog person, so lets just ignore them.
We are scotties, king of the world and unique, and you make our breed proud, DOGS RULE!

  4. mckatie says:

Wow, I liked your white marking myself. My Scottie Keela would feel like a plain Jane except her ego is so big. She thinks the world revolves around her.Shhhh…at least it does in her world!

  5. christina says:

Agreed! Our differences are what make us each great! Imagine how boring the world would be if we all looked, talked, thought alike! Blah!

Thanks for sticking up for Sweet William! He really is sweet and we are really happy that he is blogging!!

  6. Alyssa says:

Wow…. I just woke up here on the west coast Stuart and you know I am NOT happy about any body saying something mean to anyone, dog or human. Those commenters are SNOBS!!!! BIG FAT SNOBS!!! What is this? The Westminster Dog Show on the internet?? I am going to read all about Sweet William now. What wonderful people to help him with his troubled legs! I’m sure they are spending their hard earned money so he can have a nice life and some terd person says something mean-Ugh! I am really incensed by this one. And a Sheltie with too much white is not a real Sheltie? I thought it was DNA that made one a Sheltie or a Scottie or heaven forbid a mixed breed my two rescues. All I know is Mr. Fox is some kid of Chihuahua mix and Scruffy is some kind of Terrier mix and I love them just they way are. Our flaws are what makes us PERFECT! You keep rockin’ those white spots Stuart!
    Alyssa, Mr. Fox & Scruffy

  7. Douglas says:

Everyone is different, and anyone who is mean about it is just a ding dong! Ms. Christina is right, our differences is what makes our lives interesting!

    Rooooo!

  8. edgar says:

    amen brother!

    edgar

  9. rottrover says:

It’s why we have our Grace Happens thingy on our sidebar. It’s all about sowing compassion to fellow bloggers. If you want to be mean and nasty do it somewhere else!! BTW, we love your white!!

  10. Daisy says:

Some people have miserable lives and just want to make everyone miserable too. They just say mean things. We try to ignore them. William’s legs and your white spot make you unique. We’d never make it into a show ring….but it doesn’t matter.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella &Roxy

Chasing cats isn’t really mean is it? We just want some fun.

  11. Lee says:

Helloooo Stuart ~ Thank you for being a friend. You traveled down the road and back again
your heart is true you’re a pal of mine..
Somebody made the nasties cold ~ But the cycle ends right now cause they can’t lead us down that road. All they are is mean and pathetic and alone in life.
    Sweet William The Scot
Pssss ~ Lee has been in hospital having spots in her lungs checked out because of the histoplasmosis she had last summer. We are O.K.

  12. Merlin & Pixie says:

    You go Stuart!!!!!

    Rooo Roooo
    Merlin & Pixie

  13. Duncan says:

Oh how we hate that that happened to Sweet William. Just no need for that!!! My mom likes to say “karma is a boomerang.” Sweet William is going to be just fine because of friends like YOU!

  14. We think being different is perfectly normal 🙂

  15. Kyla says:

That’s what makes us all unique-peeps and dogs. Why should we be cookie-cutter products? Stuart, I would have sent you Valentines’ cookies except they don’t contain preservatives and I no longer trust the Post Office. If I didn’t send your 2011 package priority, it would have gotten there for 2012 Valentine’s Day instead of taking a month in 2011. Consider you and your white spots Valentines. I would have sent some to SWTS also.

As you know, I’m a rescue and probably a product of a Mexican puppy mill. I have a disease which is hereditary and probably should never have been born. I love my vet and peeps who keep me alive and I just don’t have time to cut others down. I have to make exceptions for (real) skunks like:

any biological unit who is mean
    most politicians
    bureaucrats
    control freaks
    defrauders and con artists
et al but you get the drift

They prevent me from enjoying life and my friends and good peeps.

  16. Groucho says:

Stuart, this is an awesome post.

I know it’s usually Groucho who makes a comment on your blog, but today, I’ve taken over – like you and Sweet William and so many other wonderful dogs (and cats and horses and ponies etc), Groucho had a rough start to life and the most wonderful, awesome, incredible thing about him is that, despite being treated so poorly, so horribly and so nastily by humans, he is full of love and joy and happiness and he brings so much of that love, joy and happiness not just to our lives but many others – if only we could all be so forgiving and kind and generous and remember that someone being different is not a reason to be mean, or bullying or just down right nasty. And honestly, really, how could ANYONE use these wonderful, happy, laugh-provoking blogs as a means to be rude and horrible??? Shame.

Good work, Stuart. Groucho and I are off to be kind to everyone we meet.

  17. Hoke says:

People who have nasty things to say because they are jealous of not being different…they are just not extraordinary…they are just boring!!! So there meany people!!! I have a bent tail and I love it…it’s how she’s knows that it’s me!!!!

  18. i went to Sweet William’s blog thru the link ya posted… i think he’s one cute and cool dawg… those nasty commenters may have been feeding on bitter-stuff for years and it’s affecting the words coming out from their mouths/fingertips… personally, i ignore/block them xoxox Vanilla Bean

  19. Laura Rivers says:

Stuart we love you the way you are. You are a very handsome scottie.

  20. Mayzie says:

Oh, Stuart! This mighta been one of the Most Wonderful posties I’ve ever, ever read! I can’t imagine not liking sombuddy else cuz they were different from me. That’s just kerazy! I just think that humans should stop worrying abouts what we (and each other) looks like on the outside and puts their attention on what’s on the INSIDE. I don’t know why that’s so hard. Us dogs do it all the time!

By the way, I think you maybe the Most Handsomest Scotties That Ever Was! Inside and out!

    Wiggles & Wags,
    Mayzie

Go ahead...Bark Out Loud! ArroOOOO!
