The $5.23 Tomato

Can you see that this tomato is almost as big as half of my head?? (I must have a thing for tomatoes. I’ve written about them before.)

When is a tomato worth $5.23? Never in my book. But my peep spent that much on ONE TOMATO over the weekend. Yes. It came from a Farmer’s Market where it’s always nice to patronize the local folks.

But $5.23???

Heck. That’s a lot of dog treats He could have brought home instead.

What You Learned Today:

  • I like tomatoes. Not to eat, to look at.
  • They’re funny.
  • Soft and squishy. And very heavy.
  • Heavy tomatoes cost a lot of money at Farmer’s Markets.
  • How much would YOUR peep pay for one tomato?

Stewart…that appears to be a “heritage beef steak” tomato. Quite heavy and flavor filled. Where we live in Al there is a tomato festival held quite close to us. The folks here are VERY proud of their ‘Slocom maters’. Not as proud as where you live though…. ($) ( we don’t eat ’em either)
Have a good week Stewart !! We plan to snooze by the air conditioning vent close to the front window.

  3. edgar says:

me & my old pal lucas used to play with the tomatoes in my mum’s garden…boy oh boy – she didn’t think it was funny for long!

  4. They was had, surely? What price are toms with you then? Perhaps they just like doing size comparisons with you?! Looks like a delicious specimen though 😀

  5. Dougall says:

Hmm, I’m not sure, but I don’t think they would pay quite that much!

  6. Piper MacT says:

I like cherry tomatos, But I can’t see dad lashing out a fiver for them. Mom’s sister has home grown tomatos in her garden, they are the best.

  7. We don’t like tomatoes ourselves so mom wouldn’t dare pay much for something only she and dad can eat! Grandpaw is growing them and we hope to share photos when they’re ripe! They’re just little ones though, not like that beauty your mama bought 🙂

    Hey Stuart!
Wow, that’s a huge amount of cash for a veggie! If it were a steak, I could see it, but a veggie? No. It’s very nice, but it’s not meat. Can you trade it in for proper treats?!? BOL
    Grr and Woof,
    Sarge, COP

  9. That is one expensive tomato! We hope it was the best you’ve ever tasted!

    Love ya lots,
    Mitch and Molly

  10. Lee says:

That is like the price of two thirds of a T-Boner. WOW! We do love the old Heritage Tomatoes. We grew one last year that was almost a dark purple with some darker spots (and no the spots were not rotten) it has such a great flavor, but even those seeds are expensive. We put a few plants in among our flowers.

  11. Daisy says:

Hope that tomato tasted good….or are they having it bronzed?

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

  12. Mayzie says:

Whoa! $5.23? I hope that’s the very bestest tasting tomato that ever, ever was. My mom luvs tomatoes. Her grandpa used to grow them and she said they were heavenly. So she might pay that much to have one of his tomatoes again. Maybe more!

    Mayzie

  13. Hoke says:

Well….he would pay a pretty penny for a good tomato!!! She says as long as he’s happy and saves her some it’s ok. They are hoping to have tomatoes soon if the monster stays out of that garden I planted!!!

Go ahead...Bark Out Loud! ArroOOOO!
