Do You Dog Park?

We crossed a creek by way of this nice park with a great walking trail and TWO, count 'em, TWO terrific dog parks. I have to tell you about that in another post.

There are two dog parks at this place.

Y’all might remember my visit to the Windsor Castle dog parks in Smithfield, Virginia a while back. Yes. Smithfield is the ham place. Where it all began. (And, yes, they’ve dropped Paula Deen for her unbecoming behavior. Good for them…but that’s another story.)

I was doing a little reading this morning. Catching up on my email and I noticed somebody had shared some rules for good behavior at dog parks.

I don’t do dog parks. Too much aggressive mouth wrestling and dogs behaving poorly for moi. I prefer to stay in my own ‘hood and play with Sniglet, Emma P., Bella, Bella, Millie, Abbey, and Stucco. Well, the only one I really play with is Sniglet. The others, well, we just sniff butt and call it a day. Sometimes we don’t even do that. The closest I come to going to a dog park is a trip or two to my local farmers’ market.

Do you go to dog parks? Have you ever gotten into trouble there? I’m just curious.

What You Learned Today:

  • I don’t do dog parks. But I’ve seen some.
  • Some dogs don’t behave very well at dog parks.
  • Some do. They behave just fine.
  • Actually, I think the owners allow bad things to happen sometimes. I’m jus’ sayin’….
  • PET BLOGGERS MALL UPDATE: Seems the opening date is up in the air, but have no fear, be on the lookout for my store coming soon. Right here at The Scottie Chronicles.
  • WHERE IN THE WORLD WAS I? Yep. At my Godmother Carol’s for a trim. Now I’m all tidy.
  • Whew. My eyebrows were so long, I couldn’t see. Thanks Carol!

  1. We don’t have dog parks in Trinidad, but if we did I would take my Missy all the time.

  2. Scout's Mom says:

We don’t do the dog parks either Stuart. We prefer the state parks by our home and other various walking areas. As you said there are too many owners/dogs misbehaving for our tastes at those places. Plus, I always worry about “catching” something. I know, I know we are paranoid but I’d rather be safe rather than sorry.

  3. We have no dog parks here. Only an area for small dogs, I’m not allowed there. I like your picture, would be a great cover for a book – maybe you want to write one?

  4. PigLove says:

Well I definitely learned something from your post my friend. That is to NEVER visit this place called Smithfield, Virginia. My goodness, I could venture into a place like that and never been seen again if you know what I mean – shivers for this little piggy – snorts. I personally don’t venture the dog parks for two reasons. (1) moms afraid that some big dogs might look at me with hunger in their eyes and (2) I’m still fighting my anti-nature stance. But, I wonder if they can make a friendly pig park? I’m off to research that… XOXO – Bacon

    • OH BACON!!!!! My apologies to you my little friend. Don’t you worry. You’d be safe in my backyard kingdom. How thoughtless of me….Now I feel bad.

      aroOOOOOO, Stuart

      • PigLove says:

oh no – please don’t feel bad whatsoever! I didn’t say it to make you feel bad. I would love to walk outside… but I have a HUGE phobia of nature. I just don’t like the grass touching my hooves. It feels funny – snort – I hope that makes you feel better and laugh 🙂 I’m really in piggy therapy for it. XOXO – Bacon

        • Well, thank you for that. OK. No worries!

Guess you’re not ever visiting me in my backyard. There’s grass, BUT there’s also lots of bricks where you could curl up with me. I could give you a ride on my back so your tootsies don’t ever touch the grass.

          Now there’s an idea.

          • PigLove says:

Hey, now we got a winner. I could definitely go for that. I’m getting there in my therapy. I think I could safely sit on your bricks and we could have so much fun! XOXO – Bacon

  5. Angus and Winston will be spoiled and only attend a monitored dog day care every once and a while for a romp and on grooming days as it is in the same facility. Angus went once and loved it … at least we think so!

  6. Kyla says:

The nearest dog park is 8 miles away. Why go there when I have my large backyard at home and Kaci to play with?

  7. Me and Nalle love to go to the dog park! We go a few times a week. There are two that we walk to, and we run and wrestle and gossip with our pup friends. woooooowooooooo, Ku

  8. Ranger says:

I don’t do dog parks either. Too many bad humans with unruly dogs. I prefer to have playdate with my buddies (baby Finn and Wally.

    • I know you and I have NEVER been unruly. Never ever ever……not that I’ve never torn up a gutter or two looking for a c-h-i-p-m-u-n-k. (The peeps think I can’t spell.)

      That would be W-R-O-N-G.

  9. SUSAN, SID, AND SHELBY WEINSTEIN says:

Shelby and Sid love to go to the dog park. It is too warm during the summer too have an enjoyable experience. Shelby is content to run for a little bit of time. Sid doesn’t stop the whole time and is exhausted by the time we leave. Sid also has a problem with other dogs paying attention to Shelby. He can be aggressive. We sometimes met Sid’s brother Rowdy and Rowdy’s sister Bonnie. They four of them have a good time together. If you are interested we can sent pictures of them at the dog park through email.

  10. I sometimes do dog parks, but not often. My experiences are in line with yours. I’d rather play with our dogs somewhere else.

  11. We don’t have dog parks here in SA like you do in the USA butt if we did chances are we wouldn’t visit ‘cos I (Wally) am a little tetchy when I am out among dogs I don’t know – despite having attended socialisation classes as a pup. I’m like you Stu, I like to stick with the pups that I know – Sammy & my cousins Ella & Ben

  12. edgar says:

we have two dog parks in my town, but i am no longer allowed to go. i used to go and have a grand time chasing and playing zoomies with the other dogs. but now when there are too many dogs around me i get into fights. the last time we went i got in a fight and made the other doggie bleed, mum was so ashamed and i was sad that i upset her so, and sorry for hurting the other doggie. she nearly carried me out of the park because she didn’t want me to get in another fight on our way out. embarassing for the both of us!

    edgar and his mum

  13. We’ve never been to a dog park before, Stuart. Mom says that it wouldn’t be a good thing for us at all!

    Love ya lots♥
    Mitch and Molly

  14. susieandsidebite says:

We don’t do doggie parks, cause we gots our doggie acreage with all the barn yard pals behind us, they kepp us busy barking and runnin!

    The Mad Scots

  15. Daisy says:

We don’t go to our dog park much…and when we do we’re the only ones there. BUT you know how we love the Devil’s Hole part of our river where we can run free with the other dogs. We think Roxy might be one of those aggressive neck-biting dogs you’re talking about….luckily she has a few friends at the river who are the same.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

  16. Misaki says:

We don’t have dog parks in the UK, or at least not that I’m aware of. So we just go to the normal park.
They seem like a good idea…as long as everyone is well behaved ofc!

  17. My sissy Cinderella isn’t allowed at the dog park anymore because she gets too stressed out and plays fun police. I go sometimes, though, and it’s fun to meet some other dogs and run around. My dog park has sprinklers to play in too!

  18. Glittermoon says:

We have not tried a dog park yet because we are just a little scared of what big dogs might be there ,too. Mama says I need some more training so’s I don;t start barking at them all. You know I only do it so they don’t get too near her in case they bite. Emma P.

  19. I don’t need a dog park. But the thought of one gives me the heebie jeebies. I hear too much about rude dogs and I have a hard time relating to rude dogs. and my Mom Person would never take me to one anyway. She feels the same way you do. So occasionally my buddies come here, but other wise I’m happy with the family and my river.

  20. Gizmo says:

We only get to the dog park when we know that my Doggie Social Club pals will be there…otherwise we head for the trails where I can run

  21. Vicki says:

Nope. I have 5 Chihuahuas, smallest is 3 pounds, largest is 6 pounds. People will bring their large dogs into the small dog are without regard for the rules. They are too precious to me to be at risk. My back yard is big enough for them to run and have fun.

Go ahead...Bark Out Loud! ArroOOOO!
