The Way of the World

The way of the world isn’t always nice or even pretty. Sometimes, it’s downright ugly.

Witness one or both of these two little movies. The first one is long – just under a minute and 30 seconds. The second one is short – about 26 seconds.

Now, the first one is for those with more time to waste to witness the tenacious nature of a Scottie. Notice the high-pitched barks, the looks to the peep as if to say, “there’s something in there and I’m going to find out.” (I’m also rather fond of my close up at the end.)

The second one is for those who want just a little dose of my magnificent-ness and hopeful barks that I WILL find the culprit vermin in the under-step storage area in my backyard kingdom.

Yes. I. Will.

You choose:

Now. Depending upon which way you look at it, this little story doesn’t end well. Or, maybe it does. It’s your choice. Here’s what happened.

I barked and barked and barked so much that Auntie Meredith away to the window she flew like a flash, tore open the shutter and threw up the sash when what to her wondering eyes (and ears) should appear, but Stuart driving her crazy and hurting her ear.

The next day, the peep opened up the storage area.

You know what happened next. And yes, animals died in the process. I fortunately, was NOT one of them.

I found three baby opossums in a big terracotta pot. No mamma. They were big enough to cause trouble in my backyard. To scare the peepstress to death if She should stumble upon them one night while taking me out for my nightly constitutional. And big enough to turn into full-fledged big opossums. They’re not nice critters.

So, I took matters into my own teeth and took them out. Yes. I did. Because that’s what Scotties do.

Now, I ask you, was that a bad thing?

You decide.

About The Scottie Chronicles

Winston welcomes you to The Scottie Chronicles - a blog that began in 2009 as a voice for Stuart, a more than memorable black, brindle and white Scottish Terrier who captured hearts around the world. Stuart passed suddenly in December 2015 from cardiac hemangiosarcoma, a nasty cancer that took him far too early. If you love Scotties, please follow along. Arroooo!

With your voice they could find you in the tunnel for sure. Can’t believe that the peeps waited to a day to let you do your Scottie thing with vermin. Good job Stuart.

Obviously Shelby and Sophie agreed with you. Sidney was neutral. He picked up his head, but didn’t make a sound. We are not fans of opossums. You’ve got to do what you got to do.

Stuart, Maddie and Mister B would have done the same. Speaking of Maddie the Westie, she was tilting her head left and right when she heard you barking on the video!

A true Earthdog are you, Stu. Mum thinks that opossums are cute and her tender little heart was sad to read the end of your story. I, Edgar, on the other hand…

Stuart you set off the alarm here at our house too! We knew it was urgent! Our Mom says she wishes you lived here so that you could take care of the mole infestation in the back yard. Way to to with the dispatch of the intruders x 3 my friend!
