The Case of the Mysterious Belly Boo Boo

So, I love a good belly rub. Don’t you?

Ahhhh. Thanks peep.

Hey, something weird happened to me a while back. And the peeps have no idea how it happened. And I’m not telling. See, I was giving the peep my belly out in the yard last Friday and there I was. Pretty as you please, showing my belly to the world when the peep started patting it and let out a shriek so loud Wally and Samuel probably heard it down in South Africa. No kidding.

Somehow, weeks ago, I skinned my belly – like you skin your knee – and there’s a wound site the size of an overgrown 50 cent piece. And if you don’t know how big that is, well, it’s kind of like the size of a round ping pong ball, only BIGGER. Way bigger. But it’s not the size of a tennis ball. Had to throw that in there with Wimbledon and all.

The scab is just about gone. And there’s a red ring around the whole thing. But you know what? I didn’t care. She just kept on rubbing my belly with one hand while poking at the old wound with the other. I didn’t feel a thing. It didn’t hurt at all. Promise.  AND, I’ve been frog doggin’ for weeks and never let on that I’d hurt myself.

What’s up with that? I ask you. What. Is. Up. With. THAT?

She’s wondering if Dogtor Elliott needs to look at it. But, I said, “hey peep, it’s over now – no blood, no gore, no lethargy, no yukky stuff coming out of it, so let’s just leave it alone.”

What do you think?

Stuart did you scrape your skin when you went down those stairs. When we are short and closer to the ground it is easier to get ouchy.

Sorry Stuart…we thinks the dogtor needs to take a peek. Probably a bug bite…just be sure hunny. I (Mac) had a ‘skin staff infection’ issue… soaps and meds cleared it up. As to where ‘it’ came from..who knows… (not transferable to hooman beans)
    Have a super week…try to keep kool….
Glad the ‘fireworks’ are gone…now the thunder needs to move on too.. ^.^ ^.^

  5. Ringworm can also appear as a scrape or irritation and just keeps bigger with a red outer ring – might be a good idea to get it checked

Yes, ringworm came to mind to us as well. Glad you’re going to get it checked out. Need to be careful in your “prime of life” years you know.

If your Vet is as nice as mine there is nothing to fear! Glad you are going to check it out… The fireworks were awful; mommy was so worried because I held it in for 23 hours! amazing, right?

Glad you are getting it checked out. I had to put up with the fireworks for 2 nights. Not a happy camper with that.

It sounds like nature (the best medicine) has already taken care of it. I’ve never been to the dogtor and have never been to a vet either and I’m healthy as a parrot can be.

  11. Kismet, we all know how amazing you are and this confirms it! Stuart, glad you’ve been checked out, and the Dogtor is taking it a step further. Hoping for pawsitive results from the culture. We did not have a lot of fireworks, so I was chill.

We think you got a belly burn sliding down the steps. The grandkids get that when they belly surf down the stairs. Time to move downstairs or get a scottie chair lift put in.p

It took me a while to read all the comments, and I’m in the ‘get it checked out camp’ with everyone. I even thought so while reading your belly-rub story, too. The peace of mind that comes when the dogtor says, “It’s nothing to worry about.” is worth everything!

If it seems to be healing ok on its own, then there’s nothing the doctor can do to make it heal faster. If it’s been longer than 24 hours, she can’t really stitch it up either. But i suppose she can give you some antibiotics if your peeps is worried about infection

It sounds like scar tissue which would be eventually reabsorbed but I think better “safe than sorry”because if something is wrong it is always better to get it early. ❤

  18. Well THAT explains it! There we were, minding our own business, doing some synchronized paw licking the other night when out of the blue we both stopped, ears pricked up…listening. Tell your peep those are some fine shrieking skills she’s got going on.
Now about the boo-boo, do you think you may have scratched your tum the other day when you took the tumble down the stairs? Or perhaps you did it when jumping up the stairs outside. We say: as long as it is healing, isn’t sore, isn’t swollen or oozing you are A-ok, no dogter needed.

Oh pal. If it was my mom, I would be at the doctor. Humans are strange like that. It may not bother us at all anymore but better for the humans to feel better about the entire situation. You know? XOXO – Bacon
