Today is Left Handers Day. Why do they call left handed folks “south paws”? People don’t have paws. WE have paws. Four of them to be exact.
Humans slay me. The blow me away. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it.
But I love Them so.
Arooooooo!

that’s true, people have no paws… but some are pawsome (sometimes) :o)
OOOOOOOHHHHHHH! You’re so right! Pawsome peeps!
The origin of the term had something to do with baseball pitchers who were left-handed is what my Peep found on Google.
Does anybody else get acorns and baby chestnuts stuck in between their paw pads? It happens to me a lot and then I hold my paw up like you are doing, Stuart!
McDuff & Mom
OUCH! Yes. I get things stuck in my tootsies all the time. You know what I do? I just sit there and hold up the painful paw until a peep comes over and rescues me. That’s what I do. I suggest you do the same. Sweet!
BOL! I do the same too. Just hold it up, and wait fur Ma to get it out!! Does anybody else in blogville bark and YELL at airplanes at night?? Those red blinkies in the sky just infuriate me!!! Ma says I watch too much “Ancient Aliens” on telly :0
North paw, east paw, and west paw – what about them? You do a tri-sit like me. Andy tried it once, but lost his balance. BOL!
Did he really? I do it all the time. I like to pose. Bet he does something that I don’t do.
Great photos Stuart !! Did you know there are ‘south paw’ golf clubs? Not that we golf often mind you, just a rumor we heard.
from your 4 pawed friends…L&M
I know you wear your tam o’shanter when you golf. You can’t fool me.
Well I don’t have paws but I really don’t favor any particular one of my hooves. I use them all to do everything I do. Like you said, Humans are weird for sure – snorts. XOXO – Bacon
South Hoof Day it is.
McDuff has it partly correct. Way back when, there were only day baseball games. Parks were position so that the batter wasn’t looking into a setting sun (like driving west in the late afternoon-yecch and dangerous with the sun in your eyes). A batter could get seriously hurt if he couldn’t get out of the way of an errant pitch because he couldn’t see it. Usually the parks were positioned so that the sun set behind the home plate stands and the left arm of the pitcher was on the south side of the pitcher. Why right handers aren’t called northpaws is a mystery. It doesn’t hold true today because of indoor ball parks and loads of night games. I know a lot for a bird that doesn’t have arms or paws but birds are part of baseball. Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Saint Louis Cardinals. No thanks to YOUR Richmond Flying SQUIRRELS, who are a farm team of the San Francisco Giants. That’s all we need-Giant Squirrels-bwahahahaha.
Your knowledge is vast and wise. No Giant squirrels for us either! No SCottie names for baseball due to our short legs – not good for running bases or pitching fast balls.
Thanks for the info, Kismet! You are one smart bird! I say there ought to be a team named after you!
That Kismet KNOWS ALL. Like the Wizard. With no hands. Or feet. Just a big brain to watch the knuckleheads.
I prefer to shake with my left paw, so I guess I’m a southpaw!
Can you believe I never learned how to shake? Or, at least that’s what my peep thinks. I just don’t want to do it. Too taxing. You’re a good shaker Casey!
My grandpaw are a southpaw, maybe I’ll have to give him some eggstra lickies today.
Grrrreat Idea!
I am a leftie. My daughter and son are lefties. You can say all you want about left handed people, we know the truth. We are extraordinary. We are smart. You can even read my handwriting. My kids, not so much.Celebrate Left Handers Day!
One of my peeps is a leftie. Sweet!
Dear Stu,
Us hoomin beans aspire to be like you, dats why we refer to our left handedness as “South PAW”. Any chance we get to try to be like you, we grabs it! Now, I would like for you to help me understand why “left” is called “South”? And you’re correct as usual, Hoomins are strange–some more than others.
OMD, but those pictures of you are super adorable!
One thing’s fer sure, WE love you!
Riley-Puppy and Tessie-Girl
Left. Right. It’s all a march step to moi. I’m ambidextrous. Love you back!
Woofs and wags for left-hander’s day! My humans are both lefties. I’m pretty sure I’m a left-paw pup cuz I lift up my left paw when I’ve misbehaved and mum is mad at me. The missus says she likes being left-handed because it makes her different from most folks.
Being different is what makes us all alike. Woooot! Nice to hear from you!
My mum is a southpaw!!
Edgar and his lefty mum
So’s my peep!
