Hold on to your hats….or leashes or collars…. have I got NEWS FOR YOU!!
Take a long look at this little movie:
Yep. The peep noticed something about me lately and decided not to say anything about it. So early this morning, She put work on hold and took me to Dogtor Elliott’s for a weigh in.
Yes my friends. I’m living proof that it can be done: I can lose weight.
See, when I had my dental procedure last month, the news wasn’t good. Dogtor Elliott was concerned that I’d gained MORE weight. And you know what that can mean: it causes heart problems, causes joint problems, and a host of other maladies that can be prevented. Because my thyroid is fine and there’s no medical reason for me to hold onto extra weight.
Now get this, the peep is a Lifetime Weight Watcher member, so one would think She’d know a thing or two about losing weight and keeping it off. One would think. Well, what She learned all those years ago when She was losing weight kicked into Her feeble brain and She figured out how to make it apply to moi.
Here’s what We did:
- We measured my dry food every day. After a while you think you know much is the right amount, but when She started measuring it out again instead of scooping a mug full ‘o stuff on my plate, She learned that I’VE BEEN OVERFED. DUH. DOI. I’d call Her a fool, but I love Her too much.
- The dad peep doesn’t scoop the food anymore. ‘Nuff said about that, right? The peepstress does it once a day, so He doesn’t have to “fudge it”.
- We put those tasty all natural, handmade, organic treats in the freezer. Yes. Just because something is all natural with no preservatives, doesn’t mean it’s low in calories.
- Speaking of calories, if you consume calories, you need to burn calories. So, Sniglet’s peep – aware of the scheme to get me to a healthy weight – resigned herself to take me and Sniglet OUTSIDE when I go over for a visit. This is instead of my curling up and snoozing. Just like I do at home. Way to go Auntie! It takes a village!
- Green beans are still a big part of my diet – but We measure those, too.
- I still eat my rice cakes as treats, but those are doled out, too.
- No more “here you go baby” with the treats.
- And We try to walk twice as much. Or with me it’s a stroll as you saw in my little movie; but hey, it works!
So, my friends I’ve still got a little way to go, but I have to tell you that it’s much easier for me to hop up on my little sofa these days. AND, I’m back to going up and down stairs without the “elevator ride” – that helps too!
If any of these tips help YOU, terrific! Hey…why not share what YOU do to keep your weight healthy? Go ahead. Drop a comment.
I hope this keeps up. Really. I do. I hate feeling fat.
I can see that you are looking more slim in your movie. My peep finds that in the winter (with less walks because she is too cold) she has to really watch me food intake.
Bentley
You may not believe this, butt I actually get more exercise in the winter. We all love the cold and hate the summer!
Thanks for noticing my svelteness pal.
We want to go on your little adventure
Lily & Edward
Well tawdle on over to my house and we’ll ALL go on an adventure!
All of us here were jiggy with it UNTIL you mentioned that your green beans are being rationed. That’s cruel and unusual treatment and unconstitutional.
I know. Butt just between us….the dad peep is my go-to for just about all the beans I want. Don’t tell the peepstress. Then, They’d have another big fight. And it isn’t pretty when that happens.
Well done, Stuart And Peeps!! Sounds like the village is doing it right – that is Ma talkin’ of course! I try ta convince both of my peeps that I’m starvin’ ta Death Every Day. Ma says “I’m Not gonna kill you with kindness, Gavin” or she says “We Will Not show our love for Him by over treating” !! Ya get the picture, Stuart-butt on tha bright side, hopefully I ‘ll be around a lot longer, and have more energy to do DOG things…… Chasing rodents and such! Mixed blessing is what Ma calls this-whatever that means 🐀🐀🐀🐀 Meat is high protein, low in carbs so hope yer peep lets ya have these rodents!!
Oh Gavin, your Ma is just like my peep. “No killing with kindness” over here either. It’s tough, because you KNOW I love to eat, but it’s well worth it.
A rodent buffet sounds right up my alley…
well done Stuart – you are an inspiration to all of us and you are looking good too
You guys are an inspiration. You always look trim and terrific.
Conpawtulations!! That is wonderful!. We don’t get treats in between meals at all. Elsa is on such a strict diet, she can’t have anything but her food. So it’s not fair that me n Andy would get something. You kinda get used to it. Our walkies could be more often, so we will get on THEM about that. You are a great role model, Stuart 🙂
p.s. Elsa said to let you know she is not on a strict diet because she is FAT, it’s because of her medical issues. She doesn’t want you to think she is overweight (sheesh….girls!)
OH….I’d never think that. In fact, I think she’s sweet. And pretty. And, um, well, I like her. Blushes.
I was amazed by how fast you now walk! The leaves were being pulled along in your jet stream! A lean, mean strolling Scotty machine.
THE PEEP IS CRYING AT HOW FUNNY THIS IS. He has to explain it to moi though.
Congratulations!!! You did it! We are SOOO pawroud of you, Stu! You DO look more svelte and you have a spring in your step in da movie! And now you even go up and down da stairs–now you feel like it! Wow, Stu, keep up da good work! You’re da MAN! (BTW mum says she just loves your cute li’l wiggly butt in da movie!)
Our vet told our mum to measure our food because she was feeding us too much too! I am not food driven like my sis, Tessie, she whines and carries on and stares at the peeps and burns holes in their backs when dey is in da kitchen! She really loves to eat and I am very picky! Our Dad peep walks us in the AM and Mum walks us in da PM every day. Tessie needs to run to lose weight. we run around a little bit at the school yard playing tag, but she stops right away and goes to look under da lunch tables where da kids eat to look for stuff dey drop so mum has to put her on a leash so she won’t do dat. Ater sis stops playing tag with me I have to resort to chasing wabbits. (There are tons of cwazy wabbits in da bushes at da school yard, but Mum is afraid I’ll run into a skunk, which I have several times, and get sprayed—then she’s gotta give me a peroxide, baking soda and dishwashing detergent mixture bath 2 or 3 times to get the stink out–BIG job).
Thanks for the GREAT news! We love your movie, Speedy!
We’re rooting for you and we love your svelte look!
Riley-Puppy and Tessie-Girl
UNDER THE LUNCH TABLES???? THAT is the funniest thing. (I do that too.)
Way to go Stuart!
Thanks my pal!
Hats off to you, Stuart, you are sporting a new svelte look and it’s very becoming! We saw the grass swaying in the breeze you created as you power walked! We’re duly impressed!
McDuff & Mom
Uh…you’re being kind. About the grass swaying in my breeze. YOU ARE TOO FUNNY!!!!
And here we were thinking your haircut was making you look svelte! You waddle…er…walk just like Bonnie. Your rear goes one way and your front goes the other. Kenzie bounces like Tigger. Looking GOOD!
Bonnie n Kenzie
WORSHIP THE WADDLE MY FRIENDS.
That’s fab news Stuart, and great video. Mama is working with me, and she is with your Peep…..the scoop needs to be leveled. I don’t like green beans, but I do like walks. It was too hot for walks in the middle of the day this Summer, but with Fall in the air, that will change! Keep up the good work!
SOOOOOOOoooooooOOOO good to hear from you. We were all worried. About the weather and all.
So glad you and yer peep are safe, Skyler! We worried over ya bein’ in SC during the “Fire Hose” event 💦💨🚣🏻
Oh yes. We did worry. ARrOOOOO!
Congratulations on your weigh loss. Mom has always used a measuring cup to measure our food. We do not walk as much as she would like us to walk. Hopefully the weather will cool off soon and we will be more inclined to walk. She goes twice a day without us. Her motto is “NO EXCUSES!”
Oh my. NO EXCUSES. That’s a good one. I’ll try my darndest to remember it my friends. Thank you!
Stuart that are good news :o) my treats are rationed too… SHE! said no more treats for nothing, I have to work or to do something to get one… no idea what it means… shall I dance or sing for a treat or shall I solve a sudoku? crazy….
WORK?? That’s what Our dogtor said, too. I’m not sure what it means either. Keep me posted on this “work” thing.
That is PAWSOME news Stu!! Mom also measures out our meals for us – the small pink cup for breakfast and the slightly bigger blue cup for dinner. We are both doing well in the weight department considering we’ve just come out of winter, so paws crossed we can call keep it up!
Wally & Sammy
Weeeeee! Keep it up boys!
OMG Stuart, our moms went to the same school … weight watchers! She is always weighing and measuring stuff. When she read your tale she burst out laughing and said, Ozzy we will have to weigh your food according to grams instead of ounces from now on. She was upset because at my visit to the acupuncture dogtoor the other day I weighed half a pound more than last month! I still jump on and off the bed and the couch and do spins and run after squirrels in the backyard so what is the big deal??!! I also notice I’m getting green beans for a treat more than my biscuits. hmmmmm but it worked for you so I’ll give it a try. To our sveltedom.
Your pal, Ozzy
Sveltedom it shall be. Dog Watchers anonymous for the Weight Conscious. Our moms can laugh all they want, it’s still torture.
Oh Stu the moment the video played i got an ear worm..’WIGGLE IT JUST A LITTLE BIT..WANNA SEE YOU WIGGLE IT JUST A LITTLE BIT ” …way to go guy 🙂 loves Fozziemum xxx
AN EAR WORM!!! Wiggling for YOU my pal.
Woo hoo 🙂 ❤ < 3
WOW pal! We just love that wiggle. Awesome job on losing the weight! You deserve a pat on the back – hogs and snort kisses! XOXO – Bacon
Yes my buddy, a pat on the ‘ole butt is in order. And I’ll take one on the back, too. Is it treat time yet???
From Connie at MSD: Hi, Congrats Stuart on the weight management. Same thing here, Angus had a dental cleaning this month and the dogtor said he and Winston were both overweight. They are on a diet of Fromm Family brand food but the food was too high in calories averaging 415 per cup per daily amount. The dogtor said try to keep it at 350 per day. So I switched to a different flavor at 360 calories. I still give them a half teaspoon a day of peanut butter in a kong because they have come to love and expect that treat! Adorable video!
Weeeee! Hey Connie! Yeah, we switched to Fat Dog because it’s lower in calories, but over the years, I guess I just didn’t keep a careful watch on the SERVING SIZE. Yikes! That’s what happens! So nice to bark at you!

Yes not carrying excess weight is the BEST thing you can do for your health. So good to hear you are not using the peep elevator. My critters are very trim and only get an occasional treat. We humans avoid junky food so the critters don’t have any ever really. loosing weight is very, very hard so well done Stuart! every step counts. ❤
