Time for another installment of Scottie Scholar Saturday. Today let’s talk about hair. Actually, let’s talk about shedding.
Are Scotties hypoallergenic? Do they shed?
Here’s the thing: all dogs shed. Some just shed more than others. Take Sniglet, for example.
Stuart’s gal pal sheds if you look at her. Really. She’s a hound mix and hair just flies. Everywhere.
Whenever she stays with us, we don’t bother vacuuming or dusting beforehand. Because we have a double does of cleaning to do after she leaves.
Stuart, on the other hand, didn’t have hair flying every which-a-way. He shed, yes, the undercoat has to go somewhere, but because he was groomed on a regular basis and brushed several times a week, the result of his shedding was kept to a minimum.
As far as his being hypoallergenic, well, I have no idea. All animals have dander and some people react to it.
That’s all the more reason to groom and brush your Scottie on a regular schedule!
I only lose some hairs from time to time… my momma thinks that are eyelashes and she always blows them away with making a wish… she is as crazy as a box of frogs…
Horrible Hoover picks up a lot of Kaci-Kali hair. It’s spring and molting season for me and I’m gonna produce a lot of down. Don’t you dare brush me.
I pose no problems at the Groomer, but I don’t like Mama even reaching for a brush, even though she is very gentle. I do shed some, but as I groomed once a month, it’s not enough to make anyone sneeze. How is Sniglet doing solo? Did you ever found out how she got her name?
Yep…gotta brush ’em a couple of times a week here . Otherwise we get scotty fur ‘bunnies’ rolling across the hardwood floors. L& M dread seeing the brush appear until the brushing begins…then they like it ! Gotta love ’em !!!
signed, the brush lady !♥
My peep is glad I don’t shed much, she says it’s soft and like what collects on a hooman’s hair brush. Before she knew how wonderful Scotties were she had Basset Hounds who shed their coat like stiff needles that didn’t want to let go of the carpet! She prefers my fur, and I enjoy following as she vacuums and I watch her dump out the cup! 😃
McDuff & Mom
This is Duffy and I do. not. like. to. be. groomed. Mom tries to be gentle, but it still bothers me. I am better behaved when I go to the “spa”. Today the grooming table is set up on the sun porch and I am writing this as I hide out in the corner of the office. SHHH! don’t tell HER where I am. Gotta go……
We Airedales don’t shed much eithers. Ma tries to brush my leggies, butt it usually just ends up in an Airedale ‘dance’! ☺
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
We have hair everywhere. I have polished boards and I have clever dust mops which I use constantly. Who needs a gym when one has anipals? ❤️
Mum didn’t think we shed until we got wood floors and now she sees the hair bunnies rolling around, and knows the Hoover must come out again! Riley does not like getting brushed, even tho’ mum tries very, very hard not to pull at the tangles. Tessie is a glutton for attention and loves to be brushed, then Riley gets jealous and comes over to be brushed too, but at the first little pull, he wants outta there.
Mum brushes us often so those evil knots don’t develop, plus we tend to absorb little sticks and souvenirs from outside in our under mops so she wants to make sure we don’t build a dam down there or drop little extras all over the bed and the house.
Love you Stu and Peepstress!
Riley-Puppy and Tessie-Girl
I rarely saw any hair on the floor until the advent of Sophie. Every morning there is a small clump of hair in the same spot. It is definitely brindle hair.
I don’t shed much, but da hair really comes out when I get stripped.
Hoomans shed too….just sayin.
Bailey loves her daily groom fest. She blowing out a lot of her undercoat that the house has tumbleweeds made of her fur rolling through. I even had to vacuum out the fridge the other day.
