Here in the US, we’re enjoying picnics, pool parties and patriotic gatherings. The American flag is waving at most places and people are partaking of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and similar fixins’.
But, I fear the meaning of this day is lost on so many.
Thank you. To all who gave their lives for others. Around the world. Not just American service men and women. To each of you we say “we appreciate you and your strength”.
And grateful thanks to members of the K-9 corps. Those dogs, and their handlers, who selflessly gave their lives for all of us.
Wish we didn’t have to do this at all. War is a horrible thing.
Very well said. I also feel Memorial Day should be a day to honor all those who gave their lives for our freedom, instead of the opportunity for department stores, appliance and car dealers to advertise big sales. It should be revered as a day no different than Dec. 7th, Pearl Harbor Day, or Sept. 11th, two life changing dates in America’s history that are a solemn reminder of the perils of war.

Amen.
Stuart looks so very Patriotic, and I agree with all your sentiments!!! Unfortunately, where I live most parades and outdoor events have been postponed to next weekend due to all the rain from Tropical Storm Bonnie. But the flags are still out, and rain is a very minor inconvenience compared to what Memorial Day and the sacrifices stand for.
Bonnie has been circling us, too. But you can’t put a damper on Memorial Day.
Amen.
So true.
Amen!!
Yes indeed.
We SOOOOO agree……this is actually a very solemn day – we remember those who serve our country and lost their lives in doing so, or are putting their lives on the line now – human AND animal alike. We pray for them daily and those who have left us are forever in our hearts and minds. Maybe we cover up those feelings with picnics……but our hearts are in the right place!
Love, Sammy
I think you’re right. You can celebrate with remembering.
Hi There, I tries to comment a few times to this post but couldn’t log in. 😦 Thanks for posting the photo of Dr. Watson. Deb >
So sorry you had trouble with the comments, BUT, thank you for your email!
Yes, I agree with everything everyone said! We are so very FORTUNATE in our Great Country! We have no idea what it is to suffer like so may others in different parts of the world do. We have our valiant service men, and especially those who gave their lives, so that we would prosper and be free! God bless them and their families who personally suffer their loss, and God bless and protect our GREAT country—the USA!
Riley and Tessie salute their all-American Pal, STU!
We wish Peace and Freedom to all,
Riley-Puppy and Tessie-Girl
Peace and Freedom would be unbelievable. How I wish it could be so. Well said.
All of our family members that served returned safe and sound. Not everyone was so lucky.
You’re right. A humbling thought.
Awesome post my friends. We need never to forget the reason we are free in this country because of the brave. XOXO – Bacon
That’s right Bac-ster. If the world were run by dogs and pigs…..
